I approach couples counseling using Relational Life Therapy (RLT). RLT was developed by Terry Real, a psychotherapist, speaker and author who specializes in relationship concerns. RLT is a form of couples counseling that aims to help partners resolve conflicts, develop personal accountability, improve communication, and foster intimacy within their relationship. I am a fully certified RLT therapist. This is an approximately two-year program by which clinicians are trained in the theoretical concepts and clinical practice of Relational Life Therapy.
Couples counseling is available for both gay and straight couples at all stages of their relationship, including premarital counseling. There is no more powerful or absolute life transition than that of becoming a mother. Holding one’s child can be the most joyful experience of life. Those baby sounds…those baby smells…the softness of that baby skin. But what if that isn’t your experience? What if, when staring down at your sleeping child you are filled with anxiety and panic rather than peace and happiness? What if things don’t go as planned? What if you don’t feel the way everyone said you would?
You’re not alone. Many women struggle with their transition into motherhood. Some studies estimate 1 in 5 women will be diagnosed with a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD). You don’t have to suffer in silence and you don’t have to “tough it out” on your own. I regularly attend trainings on PMADs and am skilled at working with women at all stages of pregnancy, post partum, and parenthood. Whether you need treatment for a formal diagnosis of PMAD or simply want some supportive and nonjudgmental guidance during this time of change, I am here to help you find your footing and improve your confidence and enjoyment of this time in your life.
