*Lesley Esquivel, LPC, NCC
Lesley attended the University of Texas at San Antonio and graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Psychology and Sociology in 2003. She later returned to UTSA and completed her Masters of Arts degree in Community Counseling in 2011. Since 2013 she has been licensed by the state of Texas as a Professional Counselor and board certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors.
Lesley first sat down with clients in 2010 as a student at UTSA's campus counseling center and over the years has gained experience working with individuals, couples and families in various therapeutic capacities. She is skilled at helping clients with grief and loss, life adjustments/stressors, family issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, hospice/terminal illness, and caregiver stressors.
Lesley has a special interest in helping clients cope with the grief and loss of loved ones and possesses a special passion for working with clients coping with the loss of their pets. She understands the strong bonds of a pet-person relationship and the difficulty and pain felt with pet bereavement. The nature of this kind of loss can, at times, leave one feeling alienated or misunderstood and Lesley believes grief from the loss of a pet may benefit from the healing of the therapeutic counseling process.
Lesley prides herself in taking a non-judgmental, down-to-earth approach and strives to make the therapeutic relationship one that feels safe and comfortable for her clients to maximize their healing and increase positive coping skills for life's challenges and obstacles. She understands that sometimes what is most helpful is the presence of another during the tough times and to be fully heard, validated and understood. Lesley believes self-care is an important piece to balance the stressors in everyday life and she collaborates with her clients to help them find the balance they may be missing in their lives.
Lesley works with adolescents and adults age 14+ and can be contacted at 210-929-6880. She offers a free 20-minute phone consultation to better assist with finding the right fit for their therapeutic needs and has evening and Saturday appointments available. She is an in-network provider for BCBS PPO, Humana, United Healthcare/Optum, and Oscar Health Insurance.
